Considering Charity Network Inc’s current focus on stopping child trafficking, it is appropriate that CNI began as the team effort of a father and a daughter—Promod and Priya Sharma. In 2003, they set up CNI as a web portal to organize and direct donations, and used technology to make a difference for those who needed it most. From the very beginning, they focused on helping those in the DC area as well as those further from their homes.
In 2006, Mr. Sharma decided that the best way to have an impact was to take a more targeted approach, and so he narrowed his focus to child trafficking. Child trafficking, to him, represented the ultimate evil—the targeting of the most innocent and most defenseless, and forcing them into abject slavery. It was an issue that transcended culture, geography, and politics, and touched all who learned of it. In September 2006, Mr. Sharma put together an exciting new team and launched the child trafficking initiative.
